Moving Day
With Finn going back and forth between the apartment and the truck to bring the boxes, she was left alone, humming to herself as she began to unpack each box one by one. Most people, like Finn, would have thought this task to be boring, nothing much to do beyond removing things and putting them up. But to her she was decorating their first home together. She had had so many firsts with him an was glad that the two of them had made it this far to be experiencing this one together. It was really all she ever wanted.
By the time he had brought back up the last box, shutting the door behind him with his foot, he looked a bit tired. Rachel had already gotten all the kitchen unpacked and was working on the smaller things - putting up small things around the living room and the boxes that held things in the bedroom went in. “There’s my hard worker,” she grinned once the door closed, walking over to him. “The only thing that’ll complete everything is when we get in the furniture.” That was going to wait until tomorrow when guys could help Finn bring in the couches and beds and everything. “Hungry? One of these boxes has some stuff for sandwiches until we get real food.”
A heavy breath escaped his lips as he dropped the last box down. Yeah, he didn’t know that they had that many boxes, but whatever. He went back to close the door as he wiped some sweat off his forehead before hearing Rachel’s voice. He smiled and his eyes widened at the mention of food. He was starved. “Oh good…we have to go shopping soon, right?” He questioned as he started digging through one of the boxes, smiling as he came across the bread.
He went into the kitchen and quickly made a ham and cheese sandwich before joining her over in their bedroom. “The kitchen looked really nice, babe,” he smiled and nodded once as he took a bite of his sandwich. He knew Rachel was a hard worker and it was just another thing that he admired about her. He sighed deeply as he looked over their bedroom and instant confusion struck him. “How are we gonna sleep tonight, considering we don’t have a bed?”
Moving Day
Rachel could feel her excitement start to reach its highest point as the two of them made their way to the apartment. The box was the only thing causing her not to practically hop and skip to the door of their apartment. She grinned when he said for her to do the honors, setting the box down and reaching over, pecking him on the cheek as she took the key from his hand. “I love you,” she smiled before going to the door, sliding the key in and hearing that familiar click signaling it was unlocked. Picking up the box, her hand went to the knob and opened it, and the two of them stepped inside, Finn after Rachel.
It was completely bare, nothing left over from whoever its previous owners were and to her, that meant it was a blank slate. The two of them stood in the little area that was between the living room and the kitchen and beyond was their bedroom and another small room. It was small but bigger than their own apartments and Rachel’s favourite feature was window at the far end of their living room that had a little seat. Perfect for days to read and look over the city. “Why don’t you go and get the rest of the boxes and I can start unpacking? That way you don’t have to deal with the boring stuff.” She grinned before bending down and taking the tape off of the box she had brought in marked ‘kitchen stuff’.
He smiled at the shorter girl and followed her into the house, his hands gripping onto the box a little tighter as he gazed over the room. Woah. Sure, he’s seen the apartment a few times, but not as many times as Rachel, so it was all so brand and new to him. His grin spread even wider as he walked over to the kitchen and placed the boxes he was carrying down onto the counter. He watched as Rachel stretched down to start unpacking. “Sure thing, babe,” he smiled, and started walking back out of the apartment.
He knew that this part of their whole adventure might get a little boring after a few hours, but in the end it’ll be totally worth it. They’ll have an apartment all to themselves. No more having to go over to each others respective homes. No more nights spent alone. No more of Kurt walking in on them while they’re trying to get a second of alone time. They have all the time in the world. He kept the thought in mind as he walked down to the moving truck and quickly gathered 2 more boxes into his hands before starting back up to their new home.
Moving Day
She climbed up into the truck with Finn’s assistance, buckling up as he jogged around to the other side to get in himself. She was settled once he buckled up and with one last look up to his old apartment, he started it up, pulling out. “I think I’ve been ready since my alarm went off this morning,” she grinned, bouncing in her seat a little. They were one step closer. All the stuff was packed and ready to go. Now they had to get moved in.
Thankfully the new apartment wasn’t too far, only about a twenty minute drive. It was in a different neighborhood, so it felt in a way somewhere completely new. When they had gone apartment hunting a few months ago, Rachel had instantly fell in love with the one they’d call home. It wasn’t overly grand or maybe to some even great; but for their first place, she felt it was perfect. Finn pulled into the parking lot, and Rachel got out, placing her hands on her hips as she looked up at the building. “Home sweet home,” she said, going around and helping Finn by taking down a box.
“I can tell,” he teased, winking once at her as he started driving out onto the road. The drive to the apartment was pretty quiet, but it was a comfortable type of quiet. The radio played in the background and before they knew it, he was turning into the parking lot of their new home. He grinned and pulled the key out of the ignition. He climbed out of the car and went to open the door right behind him. He grabbed the top box and handed it to Rachel before grabbing the other two. He shut the door with his foot and quickly locked the door before turning towards the apartment building.
He followed Rachel, who knew exactly where their apartment was, and carried the boxes. Once they reached the door, he set the two boxes he had in his hands down onto the floor before digging deep into his pockets for the key. He smiled as he found it, clutching onto it as he pulled it out of his pocket. “Here,” he handed it over to her, “you do the honors.”
Moving Day
Popping the last bit of toast in her mouth and chewing, she brushed off any crumbs from her top. She looked to where he pointed, seeing the boxes she missed when she had first walked in. “Let’s get a move on then,” she said, getting up from the chair that she had sat on and walking to the where the boxes rested. The sooner they got all this done with, the sooner she could begin to set them up.
She picked up a box, holding it close as she opened the door and made her way downstairs. Looking over her shoulders she saw Finn following her, two boxes piled in his embrace and she let out a little laugh. If they went by her pace, they’d never finish. Since she was going out first, she grabbed the keys to the truck from Finn and opened them up, putting the box she was holding and helping Finn put in his own. The two retreated back up for the last one and for Finn to say goodbye to his apartment. “Now on to our own home,” she grinned, watching as Finn locked the door and they went out to the truck.
Following Rachel’s lead, after all of the boxes were put in the truck, he locked the apartment door for the final time. And that was it. He was expecting his heart to drop into his stomach or something, but nothing. The only thing he felt was the excitement that was currently bubbling inside him. Grinning, he reached for his girlfriend’s hand, squeezing it gently as the duo headed outside.
Rachel announced that she was going to ride with him, just to make things easier, and that she would come back for her car at a later date. That works. He climbed into the front seat, and quickly glanced back to make sure that he had all of his boxes. The last thing he wanted to forget was a box that had all of his deodorant and toothpaste and stuff. He turned to face Rachel, a grin on his face. “Ready?”
Moving Day
“Well it seems like you and I will be the perfect tag team,” she grinned, nibbling on her toast. Where she might have lacked in the physical strength department, she excelled in organization. All her stuff was packed away by what room they belonged into, all labeled much like the way her fathers organized all her shrines and trinkets from her childhood. That was where she probably picked up the trait to begin with.
“I guess once we get you all packed up here and into the truck, you can bring the stuff up to the new apartment and I’ll just start unpacking everything. Save you from as much unpacking as I can. And then I’ll be able to put everything away to my liking.” So far that was going to be their biggest challenge; finding that happy medium. Sure, it was easy for her to compromise, especially with Finn, but living together was a big step. She hadn’t had more than a sleepover with him and now she was going to be co-habitating. She hoped it only strengthed them and not the opposite.
“Definitely,” he agreed as he finished up his cereal and pushed it away to the center of the table. They’re always a great team when they have the same goal in mind, as well as the same motivations to achieving that goal. He wasn’t really stressed or worried about this move. Because really, as long as they can get all of the boxes upstairs, and at least a blow up mattress, then they’re all set.
Taking the paper bowl over to the trash can, he disposed of it before turning to Rachel. He was more then ready for the move. “I only had a few boxes of things left in my room, and everything else here is my roommates.” He sure was going to miss his friend as well, whom he said goodbye to last night. They’d been close and Finn probably considered him his best friend (well, second to Rachel). “They’re all over by the door,” he pointed towards where he had a stack of boxes aligned against the wall.
Moving Day
“You’ll only miss me because I’m your girlfriend,” she said with a knowing smile. “But luckily you won’t have to miss me. They’ll be no reason to miss me unless we’re at work or something.” She heard his stomach before he spoke, knowing if she didn’t want a cranky or unenergetic Finn, she should follow his suggestion. “Sounds good, c’mon,” she said, taking his hand for the short walk into the kitchen.
No matter how many times she suggested or told him he’d be healthier, Finn still didn’t catch on to her ways of eating. She imagined she’d have a better shot of slipping things in here and there once they lived together, but for now she watched as he poured himself a bowl of sugar cereals. “You’ll at least have a lot of energy with those sweets,” she grinned, moving to his cabinet to pull out some bread for toast. “Considering all the lifting you’re going to be doing, you’ll definite need it.”
He shrugged and gave her a sly smile. “So?” He chuckled quietly and nodded along with her. She was right. They don’t have to anticipate every break or weekend or whatever because now they had all of the time in the world. The thought made him smile even wider, even as he sat & stood up from the bed, taking her hand in the process.
He spooned the cereal into his mouth as he listened to Rachel talk. He shrugged his shoulders as he moved some pieces around in the bowl. “Lifting is the easy part of moving,” he said as he chewed, “putting away all of the stuff is the hard part.” He was grateful that Rachel liked to organize things because that was not his area of expertise. He can’t even put groceries away without getting bored from it all.
Moving Day
Rachel emitted a small hum against his lips, smiling as he pulled away. “Is that even a question?” If anyone would listen, it was all she talked about lately, the main thing on her mind. “Of course I am,” she still answered, pulling away from his embrace to walk around his room. “I’m pretty sure most of my apartment floor knows I won’t be living there anymore. And I wouldn’t be surprised if they were actually happy about it since that means no more late night singing sessions.” She giggled as she sat on his bed, looking around the room.
The small bedroom was a definite upgrade from his cowboy decorated room of Lima, sparsely decorated due to him packing things up. She just hoped that the two of them could make their new apartment home. The one thing she was afraid about was failure, that they couldn’t do it on their own, that they’d somehow mess things up. Pushing negative thoughts aside, she focused on him and the task in front of them. “Let’s get started. It’s going to be a long day. What do we need to do first?”
He only chuckled at her and shifted to rest his hands on his hips as he watched her roam around his room. He’s spent a few nights with Rachel before and he had heard her mini singing sessions. He never found them annoying though. He actually enjoyed them and would sometimes join in. “They’ll miss you babe,” He said knowingly, “I would if I were them.” He smiled softly at her and relaxed back onto the bed.
He honestly had no idea where to start. I mean, the last time he moved, he had tons of help. Now it was just him & Rachel. He guessed that they should probably get on the road towards their new residence, but all thoughts of that idea fled as his stomach grumbled. He chewed on his lip, slightly embarrassed as he gazed up at Rachel. “I say we should eat first. I’m starving.”
Moving Day
A small chirp signaled a new text, and at a stop sign and almost halfway to Finn’s, she read his confirmation with a grin. He didn’t live too far from her but it felt even longer today. “Excitement,” she reasoned with herself, mentally trying to calming down. It felt surreal. It didn’t click in when they looked for places, nor when they were packing up her place yesterday. She thought it would finally feel this way when they were actually settled in, no longer worrying about boxes and packing tape and wrapped up frames. But it was right here in her car that it hit her. And the grin on her face couldn’t be wiped off for anything.
She pulled into the parking lot of his own apartment, seeing the truck parked in the far corner. This was just the two of them, no friends or others needed. It might prove to be a problem, considering her size and she might be useless in comparison to some of his friends, but it was nice for this to be just the two of them. She pulled the key out of the ignition and got out of the car, entering the building and walking up to the first floor. Using her own key, she unlocked the door and went inside, looking around for him. “Finn? Are you so excited for moving day?” She walked to his room, smiling as she saw him as she leaned in the doorway.
Finn snuck a glance at his watch and smiled proudly as he managed to pack everything he needed to before Rachel got there. He carried the box out of his bedroom and sat it by the front door before returning back to his room. He glanced around it and sighed heavily to himself. He had lived there for so long, it felt so weird knowing that he wouldn’t be coming back to this room that night. He called it his home. (Even though he knew really, anywhere Rachel was, that’s where home really was.)
The heard the door open and an even wider smile etched onto his face as he heard her speak. Chuckling, he nodded his head as he approached her. “Totally excited.” He grinned and quickly stretched down to steal a kiss from the tiny girl. He pulled back to look at her, his head tilting to one side in the process. “Are you excited?” He knew the answer. Moving day was the one thing Rachel couldn’t stop talking about, and in reality, it made him really happy to see her happy and excited about things like that.
Moving Day
Rachel could barely contain her excitement. Marked on her little calendar - she had upgraded from the cat calendars after a classmate told her that they were a bit too childish - with stars all around were the words ‘Moving Day’. Today felt like a big day because she was finally going to be sharing her an apartment with Finn. Both of them had recently graduated from their respective colleges and decided beforehand that it would be the responsible decision to move in together after. Now that it was after, she was happy to get a move on with the day.
She pulled out her phone and sent Finn a quick text: I hope you’re ready for today. Be there in ten. Rachel’s little apartment that she had rented off-campus was packed up, only a few boxes remaining that she would take with her on the trip to Finn’s. Everything else was already in the moving van; they had just needed Finn’s stuff which what today was going to be about. And by the end of the day they were going to be living together. She sighed happily as she got in her car, putting the boxes in the trunk, and driving to Finn’s. It wasn’t the easiest of years, but the two had made it. They were happy together. And to her, that was all that mattered.
The loud blaring noise coming from his phone was the last thing Finn wanted to hear at this hour in the morning. He rolled over in bed, his legs tangled with the sheets as he reached over to grab his phone that sat on the bare end table. He blinked a few times to regain his full vision back before flipping over his phone, opening up the new text message. It was from Rachel, of course. He should have known. A small smile started to appear on his face as his fingers slid across the keys in attempt to come up with a coherent reply: Cool. Yeah, I’m totally ready. He sent the message on it’s way before throwing his legs over the bed, stumbling onto the floor.
He wasn’t exactly prepared for moving day, like in the whole being all packed up sense, but he was more than ready to move in with Rachel. He’s only been waiting 4 years (at least) for this day to come. That thought motivated him to brush his teeth, comb his hair, and get dressed in a timely manner. Once he was finished, he reached for the box that sat near his closet door and picked it up, hugging it to his right side as he walked to his desk. In an attempt to burn some time, he started putting away the things that he had forgotten to pack away last night.
